Welcome to the Open Floor Movement Practice with Claire Alexander…the online version.  At this time I’m offering a monthly Women’s Mindful Movement Circle on the first Tuesday of the month.  Look for more details below. I’m looking forward to seeing you on the virtual dance floor soon.

Women’s Mindful Movement Circle

First Tuesday of the month, 10:30-11:45 am

This is a luscious opportunity for women to gather and move together in a safe, loving and permissive space.  We’re supported by a dynamic movement practice with roots in the practical skills of living in a body with heart, meaning, and purpose.

The class begins at 10:30 am (PDT).  The Zoom Room opens 10 minutes before the beginning of the class with warm-up/arrival music playing.  We’d love for you to come early to have the time to arrive together and start right at ten-thirty. Class is from 10:30-11:35 and we’ll end with a 10 minute reflective closing circle leaving some time to say hello to each other.

 

Payment & Registration

At this time, classes are being offered on a sliding scale basis ($5-$25 payment for each class). I recognize that I am not alone in financial uncertainty and that the current crisis affects everyone differently. No one will be turned away for inability to pay. If you are unable to contribute at this time, please email me (claire@inbodied.com) no later than 6pm the day before the class for a registration link. 

To hold class, a minimum of six students must be registered 12 hours in advance of the start of class.  If you register for a class that is canceled, you have the option to have your money refunded or register for a class in the future.  Thank you in advance for your understanding.

To register for this class:

1. Choose the contribution amount that feels right to you from the drop-down menu below.

2. When you have completed your payment (and before you leave PayPal) click on the “Return To Merchant” button to complete your registration for the class. Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email from Zoom. If you skip this step, you will not be registered for the class.

If you are unable to contribute at this time, you are welcome to send an email to claire@inbodied.com to request a registration link. Please send your request no later than 6pm on the day before the class you’d like to attend.

What do I need to take an online class?

  • We will use a platform called Zoom. Please make sure that you have the latest version of Zoom to take full advantage of features like spotlighting. You’ll need a computer, ipad or iphone, and a good internet connection. 

  • Download the zoom app here. It is painless, fast, and free.

  • If you are new to Zoom please watch this introductory video from Zoom.

  • If you have a computer, choose that over the iPad or iPhone. Not only will the sound be better but also you can interact more and see more of others.

  • If you can, connect your computer/device to an external speaker or use headphones for better sound quality.

  • Make some space to dance. If you are in a shared space, find a room to yourself so you can dance un-self-consciously. Better yet, invite your housemates and/or family to join you. Minimizing your distractions (doorbell/ email/ phone/household appliances/TV) will support you in being as present as possible.

  • Wear comfortable clothes to move in and have your water bottle nearby.

 

How do I join online?

You must register for the class in order to get the confirmation email from Zoom with the login details.  If you are making a contribution, use the drop down menu options above which take you to PayPal. When you complete your payment, click on the Return to Merchant link to continue to the registration page. You’ll be asked to enter your name and email address, and then you’ll see a link to click to join the room. The host will open the room 10 minutes before the posted start time.  Once the room opens, there will be soft music playing for you to warm-up with.

How much does it cost?

We are offering our dances on a sliding scale donation basis, $5-25. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. To contribute, use the PayPal link above under the class you’ll be attending.

Will it be recorded?

No, this is an in-the-moment event. Please don’t record the music or take any photos of the group. 

What time does the class start?

The Women’s Mindful Movement Circle meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 10 am.  While you are welcome to arrive as early as you’d like (there’s a waiting room), the room officially open at 10 minutes before the posted start time.  There will be a short warm-up playing to help you arrive together.  Please be there no later than 10 minutes after the posted start time and stay to the end of the session.  Your presence really makes a difference. 

Some helpful Zoom features:

  • Speaker view and Gallery view – you can toggle between the two to see the difference. Gallery view is recommended when we’re dancing. It’s the best way to see and be inspired by each other.
  • The ability to MUTE AND UNMUTE – when you enter the Zoom room, you will be automatically muted.  Please leave the mute on until the host unmutes you.  It reduces feedback that can occur as well as allowing you to make as much noise as you want. The Host and co-hosts can mute and unmute everyone.

  • The ability to have your VIDEO OFF AND ON. If you have the bandwidth, please keep your video on.  It helps build trust and connection.  It also allows the teacher to follow and support you on your journey.  Your presence matters!

  • The CHAT feature – via the Chat icon in the bottom bar. If you are having technical problems, this is the place to go. Chat to the host (not the teacher) with any questions.

  • The ability to NAME YOURSELF if you haven’t already – click the three dots in your own window.
