Monday Mountain View Open Floor Class

7:00-9:30 PM with Claire Alexander

Open Floor Movement Practice is a lively, sweaty, full-on dance inquiry: How can we move and include it all – feelings, other people, thoughts, wild passions, limitations? Can we use movement to soften the tight spots in our tender hearts and stretch our capacity for relationship? What happens if we turn old repetitive thoughts into choreography for creative dances? We start small, end quiet. We respond to obstacles and mind the gaps. Ask, how am I now? What’s possible? Find direction. Add fire. Push the limit. Embrace paradox. There’s an essential movement language we all speak when we take these questions to the dance floor. We call on universal elements that are inherent in any moving body, such as breath, gravity, centering, expansion and contraction. This is the common ground that all embodiment practices share. Open Floor is where the rubber meets the road – a place for creative focus and loving attention. Our class is a combination of un-choreographed expressive movement layered with structured guidance and focused invitations designed to expand movement vocabulary. The tribal field and sacred container created when we come together in movement is a womb for transformation. We’d love to have you join us.

Thursday Open Floor Refuge: Meditation in Motion

7:00-9:00 PM with Claire Alexander & Joseph Machado
(no admission after 7:20)

For centuries people have used meditation to move beyond the mind’s stress producing thoughts into mindful awareness. There are many meditation techniques and on the Open Floor we have a simple form — we sit, we walk, and we dance in cycles.

Refuge offers us a place to gather each week and practice resting into the non-doing to see what happens.  This is how we build the resilience to respond rather than react to our internal and external stressors. As the quiet voice inside becomes more accessible, life is more spacious, we make better choices, and we have the capacity to meet the unexpected with curiosity.

Requested prerequisite:  20 hours of instructed movement practice (Open Floor, Soul Motion, 5Rhythms®, Movement Medicine, Tai Chi, Yoga, etc.)
